Discover 400+ Farms

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation (BCAITC) is excited to announce the launch of Farm Explorer BC! This new online site provides a close-up look at 400+ farms and agriculture experiences in British Columbia.

Discover the bounty of local agriculture and food our province has to offer with Farm Explorer BC. The educational GIS site (powered by Esri Canada) features:

  • A Web Map: Search the interactive map, pick a region, and discover the diverse array of farms in your area! Find farms selling products, offering visits, tours, recreation, educational activities, and other agriculture-related experiences. Plus, have fun routing your farm road trip and sharing it with friends!
  • Farm Listings: Click on each listing for instant information on what farms offer and how you can easily connect with them.
  • Farm Stories: Discover farms’ unique offerings! Get the inside scoop on a cranberry farm, apiary, nursery, dairy, and other farm experiences and how they contribute to our agriculture systems.

Farm Explorer BC is BC’s largest and most comprehensive webpage of farm direct marketers! Use the site to plan a fun road trip through your favourite part of our province and enjoy an interactive experience. Or use Farm Explorer BC to take a fun virtual journey through BC’s farms.

Pat Tonn, BCAITC’s Executive Director said, “We’re excited to introduce Farm Explorer BC! Teachers and students - or anyone interested in farms and food – can expand their knowledge with the new site. Educators can use Farm Explorer BC to plan field trips, create classroom projects, or introduce agriculture topics.”

Tonn continued, “The site brings communities and farms together! It helps people learn the importance of farms and how to support our agriculture industry by buying BC products. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food to bring Farm Explorer BC to life."

Farm Explorer BC builds upon the success of Grow BC, BCAITC’s GIS commodity site launched four years ago. Grow BC features 60+ commodities – everything from apples to asparagus, beef to beans, carrots to chickens, floriculture to forage, and beyond. Grow BC’s stories dig deep into the who, what, when, where, and why of BC’s agriculture industry. The site is one of BCAITC’s most popular resources across all grade levels.

“There is a story behind every farm. With so many BC grown and processed products here in our province, it’s so exciting that Farm Explorer BC makes it easy for students to connect with and explore farms virtually,” said Lana Popham, Minister of Agriculture and Food. “It brings farms directly to students so they can learn about how our food is grown, the people and farms growing it and why buying BC products is important for our food security and economy.”
