Call for Outstanding Teacher in Agriculture Nominations

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation (BCAITC) is calling for nominations for its annual Outstanding Teacher in Agriculture Award. Nominations for the 2020 award are being accepted now to November 1, 2020 for teachers that have gone above and beyond to provide agriculture education to K-12 students.

In the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s now more important than ever to recognize teachers for excellence in teaching about agriculture in a challenging learning environment. Educators that are passionate about teaching the “AG” to “Z’s” of agriculture literacy will help ensure that our province’s students are aware of and appreciate BC’s amazing agriculture, food, and environmental story and help to preserve it for years to come.

K-12 BC Culinary Arts, Food Studies, Outdoor Studies, Environmental Science, and Life Science educators and any other teacher whose classroom lessons touch upon agriculture and food in any aspect can be nominated for BCAITC’s award. Nominees may contribute unique or excellent teaching tools, techniques, or curriculum content and/or present ongoing professional development and opportunities to expand students’ and colleagues’ relationships to agriculture learning. Historically, previously awarded recipients include teachers who introduced new agriculture technology program, hosted agriculture career days, wrote agriculture into the school curriculum, or started their whole school on a school garden project.

“We’ve had so many outstanding award recipients in prior years and we look forward to recognizing another superstar in agriculture education this year,” says Pat Tonn, Executive Director at BCAITC. “The seeds of knowledge that these teachers plant with students today will create lifelong connections to agriculture so it’s important to recognize excellence in the field”.

The 2020 Outstanding Teacher in Agriculture will receive a $1,000 cash prize sponsored by DairyCrop Solutions
